You may require certain blood work before getting a laparoscopic procedure. You’ll be given instructions on what you need to do to prepare for your procedure. This may include fasting and refraining from taking certain medications.

On the day of your surgery, you will receive a general anesthetic which keep you safely asleep during the operation.  Next, our surgeon typically makes three to five small incisions throughout your abdominal region.

After your procedure, our surgeon closes the incisions. We’ll provide you with instructions on how to take care of yourself after your surgery. For instance, if you have a drain, we’ll teach you how to clean it. You’ll need to return to our office for a follow-up appointment to ensure you’re healing properly.

When comparing surgery options, we feel like advanced laparoscopic procedures have a great deal to offer patients. For one, there’s much less scarring with a majority of procedures since incisions are smaller. Additionally, your recovery time is less when we perform surgery in this manner. You may even go back home sooner in a majority of cases than if you would have undergone a standard surgical procedure.

You heal quicker, and you’re able to resume your usual activities sooner. Typically, you also have less pain with this type of surgery. This is because there’s less trauma to your body when we make several smaller incisions rather than one large one. Moreover, you have less inflammation.

With traditional surgeries of the intestines, you had to spend a week or even longer in the hospital. Once you went back home, you could expect your recovery to take at least four weeks. Some patients required up to eight weeks to heal. With laparoscopic procedures, you typically only need to spend two nights in the hospital at max.
